8-12-Weeks of High-Performance Training Backcountry Skiers & Riders
Phase 1: General Strength & Conditioning (4 weeks)
Build your fitness to lay a solid foundation for the more intense training ahead. This phase focuses on reinforcing aerobic fitness, injury prevention, movement quality, and overall strength with special emphasis on the legs and core, preparing you to handle the increased demands of your training plan. A stronger foundation leads to better training results and sustained fitness gains throughout the season.
Phase 2: Backcountry Prep (8 weeks)
Elevate your backcountry athleticism with maximum strength, agility, and muscular endurance training. This phase introduces more explosive and challenging workouts that directly target the demands of the backcountry, both uphill and downhill. Prepare your body to skin, boot-pack, and shred the steeps with body control, power, and endurance so you’re ready for single every tour.
This is a periodized athletic training program designed so you show up for your objectives in the best possible shape. Using a measured and outcome-driven approach with injury prevention strategies, movement quality training, and dedicated recovery weeks means you’ll stay strong and avoid burnout.
By the end of 12 weeks, you'll be ready to start your season strong, with a rock solid foundation that will keep you progressing all winter long.

What You Need to Get Started
Train Anywhere, Anytime
You’ll train on your own schedule with no fancy gym required. All you need is some basic equipment: any type of free weights, a 4-6 inch step, a 12-18 inch box, and either a pull-up bar or adjustable gym rings (TRX straps). Plus, access to a space where you can hike or run. This makes it easy to train wherever you are, without the need for specialized facilities.
